Back in May 2008, I warned everyone that this was coming. There are certain factions in this country that want to do away with independent contractors, one way or another, and it all comes down to money. One of the problems that arise in these employment classification cases is that many judges, hearing officers and legislators feel that independent contractors are being forced to be such, by employers who see it as a way to avoid employment taxes, fringe benefits, etc. In some cases, that might be true, but what these folks have failed to realize is that some people really wish to create their own destiny. They do not want to work for someone else. These people, for some reason, can’t grasp the idea of the value of entrepreneurship in trucking.
